I knit Jarrah to keep me warm at my desk in winter. It is infinitely more stylish and practical than a blanket.
The vest is a less boxy version of the Jatoba Jakke.
You'll love the shaped collar and deep, gorgeous, slanted pockets that are slyly knitted into the fabric without the bulk of cumbersome pouches.
Jarrah is a tailored sleeveless Ziggurat with a generous shawl collar, deep comfortable pockets and superb keeping-you-warm-at-your-desk qualities. This is really the reason I knitted this – last winter was so cold and my studio has a distinct draft.
The pockets...they're just FUN – and single layer. That is, there is no bulky pouch on the inside. They do require some Undisturbed Knitting Time in their setup. Of course, you can skip the pockets – but WHY WOULD YOU?!
As usual, there’s the Helpful Table to keep track of increases from shoulder to underarm cast-on.

With the Ziggurat method you fashion a tailored and flattering silhouette – a yoke that sits and fits just right across your shoulders and with no bagging at the armholes.
- tailored & top down
- entirely seamless
- sleeve caps are knitted along with the yoke for a 'set-in' sleeve
- neck-shaping (also in back)
- built-in everything (pockets, buttonbands, seamlessly lined hems)
- absolutely minimal sewing in of ends
The Ziggurat Steps are instantly recognisable from one pattern to another.
