Leavings

Leavings

Stylish, straight, even slightly boxy, Leavings is a perfect between-the-seasons cardigan.
The yoke with its classic Ziggurat shape has tailored shoulders and the signature built-in buttonband. Finish off with a small flourish: a simple & elegant leafy garland trails along the smartly lined hem & cuffs.
A light DK yarn knitted on slightly smaller needles than usual gives a nice firmer fabric to keep you warm on blustery days.

Leavings is a tailored Ziggurat cropped cardigan (or jacket) with built-in buttonbands and finished with a sweet garland on hem and cuffs.
The woolly or, hairy even, yarn is knitted on a smaller needle than I would normally use for DK – I wanted a firmer fabric.

The lined hem is not double-knitted but the two layers are nevertheless worked together, one row at a time in order to fashion a beautiful edge next to the buttonband.
You will find a photo tutorial for this hem – and other useful hems – in the generous tutorial section of the book.

  • Ziggurat: everything is knitted in one go, top to bottom
  • no seaming
  • built-in buttonbands
  • no finishing work – bind off and you are done (as in done-done) As usual, there’s the Helpful Table to keep track of increases from shoulder to underarm cast-on.
