Serangoon

IMG_0659

This stole is a riff on Bakau and Jamie’s Shawl — some swags, a little mesh, some fabulous, billowy borders. Serangoon is quite lacy, almost ornate and yet it has a contemporary stylised look.

It is knitted in opposite directions from a central provisional cast on, one half at a time (it is important that you use the linked Winding Cast-On and not a crocheted or other provisional CO).

The beaded cast off (bind off) is optional and features just a small sprinkling of beads.
There is also an alternative crocheted bind off.

Difficulty level: not for beginners unless quite brave… mostly because of the mesh section. It’s not wildly difficult but requires focus and is a bit difficult to repair if something has gone wrong.

Pattern is charted and written out line by line.
