FL1 – left-leaning
1. Make a loop with long yarn end behind the attached end.
Insert RN from behind to place loop on RN.

2. Tighten. Done.
On the next row or round, knit or purl this loop as a normal stitch.

BL1 – right-leaning
1. Make a loop with long yarn end layered on top.
Insert RN from front to place loop on RN.

2. Tighten. Done.
On the next row or round, knit or purl this loop through the back loop.
