Blue Basalt
Blue Basalt is one of 2 bonus designs in the eBook accompanying Åsa Tricosa Ziggurats: 16 elegantly seamless knits
(available from Shephardess & other stockists)
This is the DK version of Black Basalt, an everyday wardrobe staple, your ‘always-reach-for’ basic cardigan.
Blue Basalt features a more generous neckline and a more rear-warming length. An optional contrasting triangle detail on the cuff adds interest without making a big statement.
The double-knitted pockets require rather advanced knitting. If you carefully follow the step-by-step instructions and the tutorial photos, you should be fine, but you may choose to skip the pockets altogether or opt for one of the simpler versions (see Tutorial section in the book).
Like all Ziggurats, Blue Basalt is knitted top down with simultaneous set in sleeves, built-in buttonbands, and a built-in pockets.
Rohrspatz & Wollmeise Merino DK is firm and soft in equal measure, to provide drape and structure. Other DK yarns that knit up to the pattern gauge would be equally suitable – such as, for example, Sweet Georgia DK.
