what to wear to toad hall
Well, Messing About in Boats, of course!
This is a drive-by posting to announce the release of this perfectly pocketed pattern.
Messing About in Boats is a sweater to live in – or mess about in.*
From a design perspective, it was one of those rare projects that simply worked from beginning to end. My lived-in sweater turned out with just the right amount of ease, slouchiness, length, and comfort. Things appeared where I wanted them (neckline, cuff, bumforgiving hem split, pocket placement) without a single frogging or rethink.
And I had 2 yards of yarn left after casting off… Phew!
(I’m knitting a second one, while trawling the internet for yarn for a third. Suggestions for the perfect DK yarns welcome!)
Yarn used for sample (size 40): 5 skeins of handdyed wool by Wolllaus, a Thuringian indie dyer.
Sizes available

* Annabel, a valiant test knitter and Island Knitting Retreat creator, invented the name – an homage to Ratty and Mole, and possibly to pooling.

[…] is my variation of Åsa Tricosa‘s pattern Messing About in Boats, one of her very clever top-down garments that uses her Ziggurat […]
I recently bought this pattern on ravelry.i was very disappointed in what I recieved…. the 1st three pages were missing along with 8, 9, and other pages.the number of useless pages I recieved used all of one of ink cartridges and the cover page with the picture of the sweater was also missing . I did not know that the pattern was german. It is not the 1st time I have ended up with a pattern that was useless from europe. Maybe you should not market to the united states
Hello Wanda! I’m sorry for your trouble with printing!
I have sent you a refund via PayPal. Knitting should create happiness, not frustration!
I have not had other reports of trouble with this pdf – and there are plenty of successfully completed Messing About sweaters, so I think the pattern is in good working order for most knitters. But sometimes there are printer issues (old drivers, software, etc). Have you updated yours?
By the way, the pattern and the pattern writer are not German. (I lived in the US for 20 years and now happen to live in Germany – and sadly speak very bad German).
I’m having trouble with the split hem section, Step 10 Row 2: “p to 9 sts before split” – I’m looking at the WS, have just done the first part of Row 2 on the second needle, and don’t know which sts to now begin purling. Thanks for your help.
Hello Michelle! I’m so pleased you’ve knitted your way all the way to the hem. For a hopefully speedier reply and help from fellow friendly knitters who have more recent experience with the pattern, please post your question in the Åsa Tricosa Ravelry Group. Your question and the replies may also help other knitters!
